Excerpt from government statement made by Stanislaw Tillich (Premier of the Free State of Saxony) on energy strategy transformation (Saxony state parliament, 25th May 2011)

...Scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology in Chemnitz... tell me that by optimising production techniques, German Industry could cut the amount of energy and materials they are currently using by around a third. And companies in Saxony are playing their part in making this prognosis reality.

One example is the Hainsberg paper factory in Freital. The new power plant is a cogeneration plant, running on local pulverised lignite. This supplies the paper factory with the steam it needs, and even meets some of its electricity requirements into the bargain. With an efficiency level of 94%, CO2 emissions have been halved in comparison to the old plant...

Successful start-up of the new power plant for the Papierfabrik Hainsberg GmbH

Right on schedule, the new power plant for the Papierfabrik Hainsberg GmbH was put into operation on 1st March 2011. In future, this power plant - at the heart of which is a superheated steam generator with a muffle furnace and single-stage back pressure steam turbine - will supply the paper factory with all the steam it needs, as well as with some 20% of its electricity requirements. By burning pulverised lignite within a closed system, a steam output of 16 tonnes per hour and 1 MW of electricity are generated. The plant will achieve an efficiency level considerably over 90%, whereby emissions, between 2 and 4 mg/Nm³, will be considerably beneath the statutory ceilings set by German TA Luft (Air Pollution Control). The plant was constructed by GETEC AG Magdeburg, who will also be responsible for the maintenance, repair and management of the plant for the next 15 years. The pulverised lignite used in the plant will be locally supplied from Lausitz.
